SUSTAINABILITY
Ababil recognizes that in order to succeed in today’s global marketplace, sustainability must be embedded in the way we do business. That’s why our vision is to integrate the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability into our core business strategy, and to ensure that throughout our business we have a deep understanding of the megatrends that will affect our company, and society at large, for the next several decades. We also recognize that our response to these megatrends must be integrated into the fabric of our business’s processes, tools, and priorities.
Population growth presents a clear challenge. By 2050, an estimated nine billion people will inhabit the earth, with more than 60 percent living in urban centers. These megatrends will drive significant growth in Ababil’s core businesses. At Ababil, we believe that business plays an important role in developing solutions to these challenges, and that as a company we must integrate sustainability into the way we think and act. We also acknowledge that no one company can address these issues alone. The scale of the challenge is too large, too urgent, and requires speed never before imagined. Therefore, as a company we must collaborate with our stakeholders and business partners across the value chain. We must develop innovative sustainability solutions for the industries and regions in which we operate.
Our vision and strategy for sustainability recognizes there are no simple solutions to address the environmental, social, and economic needs of society. We must reexamine our achievements and challenges on a regular basis. For this reason, we describe sustainability as a journey for our business that requires continuous learning, adaptation, and improvement of our basic business processes and our response to the priorities of our diverse stakeholders. We are working to optimize our impact, reevaluate our priorities, and ensure that we are viewing our core business strategy through the lens of sustainability.
COMMITMENT & APPROACH
Ababil’s sustainability effort is guided by a materiality process to ensure that our business and sustainability strategies are aligned. Aligning the strategies enables us to focus resources on the risks and opportunities that are most important to our stakeholders and business success.
We are beginning to explore the newly adopted United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the ways that ABABIL’s products and services can improve human welfare, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
We believe these approaches and focus areas help us to prioritize our activities, allocate resources, and decide where we need to develop key processes and metrics to track our performance today and in the future. We will periodically review and assess these focus areas through an ongoing materiality analysis to ensure that we are concentrating our work in areas that address changing risks, opportunities, and stakeholders’ expectations.

At Ababil, we challenge ourselves to develop better ideas in everything we do from solutions that enable our customers – and in turn their customers – to meet their sustainability goals, such as higher crop yields, cleaner energy, and better healthcare solutions, to inspiring employees to create ‘The Tobacco company of Future with lower health risks”. Innovation gives our business an economic edge and helps us to ensure a sustainable future. We look at innovation through the lens of sustainability and built our strategy with these priorities in mind. We believe that by combining sustainability, technology, and innovation, we can create value that is greater than the sum of the individual parts.
From a sustainability perspective, we examine megatrends such as climate change and resource scarcity, then we consider how they could potentially impact the business. We approach these global risks with a spirit of innovation while maximizing economic value for our customers and business.

ENERGY & RESOURCE EFFICIENCY
As ABABIL recognizes international concerns about climate change and resource scarcity, our business faces the challenge of growing while minimizing our environmental footprint. As a company that relies heavily on Tobacco as the base raw material and the primary energy source of our production processes, we are acutely aware of our own footprint and the need to concentrate on devising more efficient processes to reduce our environmental burdens, including green-house gas emissions.
Our Cigarette-production processes are primarily based on non-renewable resources that warrant responsible resource stewardship. In our quest to minimize impacts, we are reducing material losses and infusing the concept of a circular economy, whereby waste and other by-products of manufacturing become valuable production inputs.
Protecting our natural capital is about being a world-class business that manages all resources wisely. We realize that our environmental impact goes beyond the boundaries of our company. Given the large geographic reach of our organization, we believe that it is important to set robust internal performance targets to manage the environmental performance of our operations.
That is why we are increasingly active in international dialogue on sustainability topics such as climate change. It is also why we are working to understand and manage our impacts both within our own operations and throughout our product value chain.

Integrating sustainability criteria into innovation processes at our global research and technology centers is catalyzing the pioneering solutions required to meet the sustainability challenges of the future.
Working closely with customers enables us to align our sustainability strategy with their internal goals while providing them with the solutions they need to succeed in the market.
